Dr. Gino Rovere in 1.5 litre Maserati And here is the same car at Brooklands in 1935. Maserati chassis number 1120 is a Tipo 4CM-100, with a four cylinder Roots-supercharged engine originally rated at 100 bhp at 5,800 rpm. It was built in 1932 and acquired by Dr. Luigi (Gino) Rovere who brought it to Brooklands for the spring 1935 King George V Jubilee. The Brooklands bumps were hard on Rovere's back and on the little car which retired early although it was successful elsewhere beating the ERAs at Dieppe in the hands of Farina a few weeks later. This photograph was taken in front of the Brooklands clubhouse and in the background you can see the banked track as it curves towards the members' banking. You can stand on the same spot today and if you go on a good day i.e. to the Brooklands Society Reunion, you will see a lot of the cars in the old environment. |
