This is car number 24 a 1959 ex-Roy Salvadori Mk1 Jaguar 3.4 entered by Antony Williams and driven by Grant Williams. I make no apologies for featuring six consecutive photographs of this car rounding Lavant Corner. I can remember the Jags racing at Aintree when I was a kid. They were fast and furious, but in absolutely pouring rain and a very strong wind, which consigned my umbrella to the ground and me to a dilute solution of a primary alcohol, at Goodwood on Sunday morning this was phenomenal. It reminded me of Derek Daly's Formula 1 debut at Silverstone many years ago when he disappeared into the distance in first place in similarly atrocious conditions. These days they would put the pace car out - even for a Formula Ford race (believe it or not they do it at Brands Hatch, spiritual home of paranoia and bottom smacking) but not at Goodwood. This is about racing cars, real cars, not pressing wild flowers. |
