Funny thing to race, unless of course you're French - Peter Mockler's 1964 Renault Dauphine Gordini. Someone gave me a lift home in one once when I broke a selector fork in my Beezer gearbox making a quick getaway, so that it got stuck in first. After a couple of minutes I appreciated how quick the Beezer was in bottom gear. To be fair though, it was a windy night, my girlfriend's father had chased me off the premises, and I wanted to get home to see The Avengers anyway. The Renault was down in the programme as an 845c.c. engine. But that would just be silly wouldn't it? This one has been fitted with a 1,255c.c. lumpette which helped it, along with some judicious pedalling and a lot of opposite rudder, to come in 13th beating Lord March's Galaxie and ten other cars. Whoops! Head for Epernay and pray for rain. |
