It was inspiring and gripping stuff in the Biggles Fails To Return genre, but as Grant Williams headed down the straight towards Woodcote, unbeknownst to we marvelling soggy mortals, he was departing Lavant only to dash off to an appointment with the tyre barrier at Madgwick.
