Nice period touch - alongside the bobbies, armed forces conscripts, teddy boys and press reporters were the spivs. Always looking for the main chance this is Tom Woodman, one of the Chichester College students. "Wanna buy a watch guvnor? Pair of nylons for the wife? Doesn't have to be your own wife, anyone elses will do."

They were flogging dodgy gear all weekend without respite. You had to give it to them though, they were just about dead on their feet by late Sunday afternoon.

So if you're mulling over your young son's future in the City and agonising between Eton and Chichester - no contest squire! Has to be Chichester dunnit?
